Preparing the Surface
The vital part of knowing how to apply EPDM roofing lies in starting with a clean surface. This includes removing all dirt, grease, debris, and other various contaminants from the surface. The surface also needs to be dry. Lastly, any existing coverings, such as asphalt layers, are needing to be removed completely.
If you are not sure about what you’re dealing with, it’s always better to let the professionals handle them. Incorrect EPDM application may not improve your current roofing system.
To maintain the EPDM sheets perfectly straight and minimize the creases or bubbles, you need to measure and mark the project area using a pencil or chalk.
EPDM Sheet Application
Applying half a sheet of EPDM at a time is ideal. Start with the edges facing the walls and work towards the roof’s edge.
If you’re using a water-based adhesive, it will involve spreading the adhesive onto the roof using a paint roller. While the adhesive is still wet, you can roll the EPDM sheet forward and begin the next portion of the project.
